Hilton Head Fishing with Off The Hook Fishing Charters
7-28-2017 Mako Shark On Fly!

I just got back form a super fun trip with my family out in
Southern California. I snuck away and got a chance to check off
a new species on the fly catching this nice Mako shark in the video.
It was a bucket list catch for sure! Captain, Byron, Nick and Cory
have been taking care of business while I have been gone catching
lots of sharks, mackerel, some triple tail  and a few other species.
Im looking forward to getting back to work next week and hoping
to get the tarpon going!

I had a last minute cancelation and went out for fun solo session
and scored 3 big jack son the fly. Hopefully they will stick around

the rest of the summer. One fish that has been pretty productive
are the spanish mackerel and some big king mackerel like the
one pictured below that this young man caught with Capt Byron.

So stoked for Andy who had the light tackle battle of his
life today! His Dad and I have been fishing since Andy was
10 years old and have had some great catches over the last
7 years but this fish today will be one we always remember
the way it came to be.

Nice to see some good numbers of jacks and macks moving
back inshore. The jacks pound for pound are one of the hardest
fighting fish especially on light spinning tackle and fly gear.

The mackerel pound for pound yield more tasty meat then any
other fish that we target during the summer months for sure.
There are still a few cobia around as well but once again all
have to be released for the numbers to rebound and will take
a few years I am sure to see a significant difference.

Looks like the full moon finally is pushing the big jacks back into
our inshore waterways. I have a funday Sunday fishing for them
on the fly with a new Sage fly rod that will be released later this
week at the ICAST fishing expo and available later this summer
and fall. I have nothing but great things to say about The Sage
Salt HD which will be replacing The Salt model which was one
of my favorites but I have already sold all mine and will be
replacing them with the Salt HD's. Check out and support
your local fly shop and get your hands one!
