Great cobia trip today! My clients Craig and VJ caught 5 nice cobia and this one pictured was the
biggest of the day! Craig and VJ fished me last year as well in the fall and had a great trip catching bull
redfish in October. It's always nice to have lucky clients!

Good things happen if you put your time in! That is exactly what happened this morning with Allen
and his wife Lyne. We stayed busy the entire morning catching sharks and rays but were hoping for
a cobia to show up and with only a few minutes left in the trip we hooked up to this cobia pictured
and another cobia that was even bigger that unfortunately got off. The larger fish was a big female
and this one pictured was the male. It's not uncommon to hook a male and female at the same time
because it's spawning season and the big females are full of eggs and are on there way into the inland
waterways to drop those eggs and are usually accompanied by several male fish. I would have liked to
catch the big female but in a way I am glad she got off and will have a chance reproduce and make
many more little cobia!

Happy Mother's Day! I had a trip early this morning with a nice couple from Myrtle Beach and we hooked
up to a nice cobia and unfortunately the fish pulled the hook right at the boat. It was a slow morning
considering how good it has been the past few days but that fishing!... one day they are there and next
day there aren't. I took my wife and daughter out in the afternoon to try for cobia as well but the amount
of boat traffic made the fishing impossible so we just cruised around and had some fun. Its good to take
a break and put the rods down for a change!

Turned out to be a rainy morning but the fish didn't seem to mind nor did my clients. We started
of the trip with some excellent light tackle shark fishing on the flats and finished catching 2 nice
cobia towards the end of the trip. The cobia run is on!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Had a great trip this afternoon catching a bunch of bluefish on light tackle with
Mary and Ted Belt. We finished up the day with Ted catching this nice cobia on one of the small bluefish
he had caught earlier in the trip. Looks like it's going to be FISH TACO night! YUM!

The wind has been very gusty the past few days making the fishing a little more challenging to go
out and target cobia so I have been back on the redfish routine and getting a few nice fish per trip.
We also have been catching lots of sharks up to 4ft. that are a blast to catch on light tackle spinning gear.

Bonnet Head Blast! My clients Dan and Greg in from Ohio had never caught a shark before and today
we had a crush on some big bonnet head sharks on the flats while fishing for redfish. These two pictured
were to big females well above average size and took a good 10 minutes to crank in on light spinning gear!

Birthday Fishing Trip! Pictured top right Birthday Boy Jon Townsend and his cousin Koins with two of the
biggest reds of the afternoon. We caught several others and a good number of reef and bonnet head sharks
as well. I heard of a few cobia caught by several other captains and look forward to next weeks trips!

Sometimes when the weather is at it's worst the fishing is at its best!
The wind was blowing really hard again this morning out of the South 20-30 mph with higher gust!
The Wiseman family visiting from Ohio ended up having a great 3 hour trip catching some beautiful
redfish on light tackle spinning gear. Not a bad way to spend a stormy rainy day!

WEW! it was what we call blowing stink out there today. The winds were whipping out of the
South 20-30 mph and it made the fishing pretty tuff but we still manage to catch a few nice fish.
Pictured above Drew and Pete with two really nice golden colored reds. We also caught a few
bonnet head sharks as well. On my afternoon trip with the Reed family they stayed busy catching
several species of sharks like reef, bonnet, and even a bull shark and were all around 3ft long.

1-2 pound blues.... perfect fry size! YUM! We also caught a bunch of nice sharks as well!

My first intentions today were to go sight fishing for cobia but the conditions were not quite calm enough.
So I resorted to plan B and it turned out great. My client Scott Keyser caught some really nice redfish along
with a big bonnet head shark and an alligator gar!

4/24/11 FIRST COBIA OF THE YEAR!!
4/19/11 My first trip cobia fishing this season with my clients David and Kathy Roman (featured).
We had epic conditions for sight fishing this day in the Broad River and ended up catching 2 nice cobia
It was a special day being the earliest I have ever caught cobia in the month of April. My earliest before
was April 22nd a few years ago. The next 3 trips with my clients also caught cobia as well all sight fishing
making a grand total of 8 cobia in just 3 days! Most of the fish were small ones but they are perfect light
tackle fun! Looks like it will be a great cobia season!

4/22/11 Chasing Tails!
Yes it's that time of the year again to start chasing tailing redsfish on the flats. Starting now until
the end of October redfish feed aggressively with there head down in the mud and tails up in the
air in search of there favorite little morsel the fiddler crab. Today my clients and I saw a good number
of tailers at high tide and we hooked one that would have been my first of the year but unfortunately
he got away. After we left the flat on the way back to the dock I spotted a cobia cruising on the surface
and we pitched the same lure we were using for the tailing reds and hooked up on one of my smallest
rods to 20 pound cobia! The battle took a good 20 minutes and we landed and released the fish!
What A Great Fish Tale!

4/19/11 FIRST COBIA OF THE YEAR!!
They are here!!!! This morning was the dream morning with perfect conditions for sight fishing. I made my
first trip to the Broad River to look for some cobia swimming on the surface and in the first five minutes
of looking Dave Roman pictured above caught my first cobia of the year. This fish was the earliest I have
every landed a cobia in the season by a few days. What was better than catching one fish was for Dave's
Wife Kathy (pictured below) to catch one as well. We had to look for a few more hours to find her fish
but we spotted a nice one and hooked up and it ended up being a keeper. Perfect way to to end the trip!

I love this time of the year! The weather doesn't get any better and the fishing is getting ready to
really bust loose with new species arriving every day. Speaking of... earlier today on my morning
trip we hooked  my first cobia of the year but unfortunately the fish got away! This would have
been the earliest I have ever caught a cobia in the season. I heard of several others caught today
so am sure I will get one soon. Pictured above is a great shot from my mid day trip with a really
nice redfish we also saw hundreds of sting rays cruising the flats and even caught a few on the fly!

nice reef shark of the year..one of many to come! The afternoon trip was great as well and we
caught some big redfish at low tide and finished with a few nice little sharks. Still waiting for
the cobia run to start should be any day now.  Can't wait!

The wind really picked up today and so did the fishing for the  BLUE FISH! My clients had a blast catching
bunch of blue fish on light spinning gear and also on the fly. We also finished with a few nice redfish.
Now that the blues are here and soon to follow will be cobia, sharks, spanish & king mackeral.

One of the nicest days of the year so far, no wind, no humidity and some nice redfish. Pictured above
my clients with some nice redfish from the morning and afternoon trips. The cobia should be arriving
in good numbers any day now and run solid till the end of May. Can't wait!

If the bugs are biting then so are the fish! My clients Kieth and Eric visiting from NJ and I had
to deal with some serious gnats this morning while we waited patiently for the redfish to bite.
It was worth the wait and we caught some really nice fish on the light tackle spinning gear.
