Having Fun In Costa Rica!

On a little vacation away from Hilton Head with my family and having a great

time! It's nice to take a break and recharge my batteries and get ready for some

excellent redfishing when I get back. The fishing down here in Costa Rica has

been great the past few days! I use my surfboard to fish off of and paddle outside

the breakers up to a half mile out at times and get into massive schools of jacks,

mackerel, ladyfish, snapper and the prized roosterfish like the little one pictured

above. I lost count of fish I caught yesterday afternoon but this little rooster fish

made my day!

The Inshore Trip Of The Year So Far! Not bad for January! To be conservative I

would say we caught close to 40 or more redfish this afternoon all on artificial lures.

We had several triple headers on fish like these pictured above! At least 4 or more

double headers and bunch of singles!

What a incredible day fishing for big bull reds off the beach of Hilton Head!

My wife pictured above caught her fish ever on the Fly and just missed the

woman's 16lb tippet World Record by a few pounds! We ended up catching 7

big bull reds! 2 on the fly and 5 on spin. The fish weighed between 20-25lbs.

1/8/12 Pic's Of The Day!

All I Can Say Is WOW! Today was a day to pioneer and try something new that has not

been tried before off of Hilton Head and today was the day! A good friend and one of the

best fly fisherman I know Mr. Raz Reid (Pictured Below) went looking for big bull redfish

to catch on the fly! The fishery for these big bulls is unreal from late September - March

and they can range from the inshore channels and nearshore sandbars in the fall all the

way out offshore on artificial reefs during the winter months. We ended up catching

these 2 fish pictured on the fly and another 6 on light spinning gear. What a day!

It was a Quality not Quantity day out there but the few fish my clients caught were

very nice! We saw hundreds of redfish but they just were not very hungry. The weather

has been excellent so far this year and looks great for the next few days so I look forward

The Last Fish Of The Year! There is a great story to this nice redfish caught/snagged?

This fish was actually swimming around with a hook and float that someone else had

hooked and the fish got away. Turns out the fish was lost yesterday by a good friend

of mine who was fishing the very same spot. I told my client Mr. King to cast near the

float and try to snag it with the fly and he did just that! What are the chances?!! The

redfish put up a incredible fight and we were able to remove the hook and release it.

What a great fish to end the year of 2011 on!

Pulled off the South Carolina Inshore Slam on my trips today!

It's that time of the year when you cast a jig or fish a live bait you have a good

chance of catching a trout, redfish or the rare flounder. I knew I had a chance to pull

off the slam when my client Lou Gauci pictured above reeled in this nice flounder to

start off the day. The trout and redfish action really picked up in the afternoon and

my clients wore the fish out on the ultra light spinning gear. Fun!

The last of the Tailing Redfish? Maybe so...I hope not. My client Ken Shew had a

beautiful morning to sight fish for redfish in the flats and we saw our share of tails

but they were the wrong kind of tails. The majority of the fish we saw were 3-7lb

sheepshead and only a few reds were mixed in. Ken got his first redfish on on the

fly and had lots of shots to sheepshead but they are one of the hardest fish to hook

especially on a fly rod. The bluefish action the past few days has been Off The Hook

so we finished up catching a bunch of little snapper blues. Great Day!

19th Annual Dotty Dunbar Tournament

My Wife and I fished The 19th Annual Dotty Dunbar Tournament today and

won 4 out of 6 places! We took 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the trout category and 3rd

place in the redfish category. We had a incredible day out there! The Dotty

tournament is only for female anglers and my wife is one heck of a angler!

What a great trip this morning with some return clients who had know idea what

they were in for!. We were fishing for less than 10 minutes and hooked 3 big bulls

finished with one more to give us a total of 9 stud reds this morning. Went back to

the same spot this afternoon and no fish were to be found but thats fishing.

Honeymoon Redfishing!

What a trip this morning!! with The Johnson's just married and here to spend there

honeymoon on Hilton Head Island. The Newlyweds had nonstop action the entire trip

and caught a total of 17 big bull redfish! We had 3 on at a time and several double

headers! The Johnson's will have one heck of fishing memory after this trip for sure!

It felt good to get back on the water after all the bad weather we had the past 3 days.

The seas were calm enough for me to make back out a few miles off the beach to fish

for the big bull reds and my clients caught 4 really nice ones and a few sharks. The

action wasn't quite as good as it was 2 weeks ago for the big red but I expect it to get

better now that the weather has past and things are settling down out there.

Another fun family trip today with the Kennedy's who were troopers to brave the nasty

25-30 mph winds that were whipping around out there. We started with some fun shark

Epic conditions this morning with light winds and a perfect high tide for casting the fly to tailing redfish.

he has caught his share of fish trust me! He has fished with me numerous times and caught some nice red
